Product Development / Designer

At Cousin Corp., our team is energetic, dedicated and passionate. The newest addition to this great team will be a new Product Development / Designer to help us develop unique, trend right product for our DIY division. The ideal candidate has a great attitude, is extremely creative, and understands the product development process, and has a passion for fashion!

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of the development process to create products from initial concept through production of assigned product categories
  • Conduct extensive market research to identify emerging trends and how they will translate to the gift market
  • Adhere to development calendar dates to ensure timely completion of programs
  • Create story boards and presentations
  • Coordinate and leverage internal design capabilities with vendor partners while focusing on speed to market
  • Partner with Sourcing and designers to maintain the breakdowns of items for each new program
  • Update and send all records and information to our overseas manufacturing vendors
  • Send development packages to overseas partners and sample facilities
  • Initiate and keep track of status of material and sample requests and approvals, and alert management of exceptions
  • Support the review of prototypes to meet product development timeline milestones with a focus on product execution, consistency of details, and target margin
  • Execute, update and maintain necessary product development tools (such as Spec Sheets, Milestone Charts, and New Product Templates)
  • Demonstrate understanding of costing implications as they relate to the product development process and manage development costs, packaging costs, and final costs
  • Work with the Creative Lead on development and execution of product designs that achieve overall product strategy and merchandise objectives.
  • Maintains all records, and samples associated with the product category and related programs
  • Interacts with Designers, Graphic Arts, Merchandising, Quality Control, and sales to distribute product technical details and assure the accuracy, and integrity of all product
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of craft and DIY supplies and materials
  • Ability to design concepts that are consumer focused to meet the needs of the retail customer
  • Must have a high degree of proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and create customized designs from sketch
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office Programs
  • Successful project management skills and knowledge of the product cycle and product development timelines
  • Experience creating and updating Tech Packs
  • Prior working knowledge of specifications management and product costing
  • Working with samples to organize and update quantities on hand
  • Communication with overseas vendors is a plus
  • Proven track record in assisting in the development of procedures, implementing processes and meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to multi-task since there are numerous projects running simultaneously
  • Ability to comprehend directions quickly, and maintain an organized work space
  • Assist with packing, storing items, locating items
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds on occasion and be able to twist, turn, bend, stoop, lift hands over your head and have very good corrected eyesight and finger dexterity
Minimum Requirements
  • 2-3 years of Related Product Development experience
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not necessary or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in product development in a medium or large size company, preferably in the craft or fashion category
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point

ASSISTANT DESIGNER

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Creative Manager with development and execution of new product designs in line with market trends, that achieve overall product strategy and sales objectives
  • Conduct extensive market research online and in print to identify emerging trends and upcoming seasonal themes
  • Create story boards and product presentations to present to team, management, and customers
  • Understand and uphold design's aesthetic while offering new ideas and suggesting improvements to current product lines
  • Organize and maintain the sample room and the showroom, initiate and complete requests
  • Communicate with the marketing department on packaging and display development
  • Review prototypes to meet product development timeline milestones with a keen focus on product execution, consistency of details, and target margins
  • Execute, update, and maintain necessary product development tools (such as Tech Packs, Milestone Charts, and New Product Templates)
  • Communicate with the sales team on product development updates or corrections
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to design creative concepts that are consumer focused to meet the needs of the retail customer with a strong sense of color and style design and a pulse on current trends
  • Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a sense of teamwork and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with superb attention to detail
  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with others within various levels of the organization
  • Must be able to perform in a high pressure, fast paced environment
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally and currently hold or obtain a US Passport
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum 1-2 years of product design and/or illustration experience with a retailer or manufacturer (experience in fashion jewelry or accessories product development is a plus!)
  • College Degree in Fashion Design and/or equivalent combined work experience and education

Content Creator/Videographer

Cousin Corporation of America is currently looking to add a Content Creator/Videographer to our growing marketing team! Our brands include CousinD.I.Y! and Laura Janelle and we have relationships with brands such as Cosmopolitan, Swarovski, LaurDIY, DC Comics, Wizard of Oz, and Harry Potter. The Content Creator/Videographer will conceptualize and create compelling photo, video, and social media content that tells the story of our brands. The Ideal candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter who jumps at the chance to grab a camera and create fresh and engaging branded content daily. Must be extremely savvy on all social media platforms and able to create content appropriate for each. The Social Media Content Creator will work with the marketing team and Marketing Manager to execute on brand marketing initiatives but will also be encouraged and expected to implement original ideas. This position reports to the Marketing Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and create engaging social media content (including photos/videos, GIFs, Instagram stories) to illustrate brand messaging, marketing initiatives and product promotions
  • Assist with maintaining social sites for the brands
  • Adapt both new and existing content for different social media platforms
  • Storyboard, create, and direct video production for tutorials, seasonal themes, etc.
  • Collaborate with marketing and social media teams to fill out social media calendars with content
  • Analyze performance of social content to continuously improve traffic and capture more followers
  • Support development of social media campaigns for new product launches
  • Develop teaser videos of upcoming product launches for sales reps and blogs
  • Produce creative videos and content for social media and websites
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • 2+ years successful experience developing and executing new marketing programs and creating compelling content for social media
  • Proven familiarity with ALL social media platforms: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Pinterest
  • Experience in operating both smartphone and DSLR cameras, creative shot composition, and photo editing required
  • Highly experienced using Adobe Creative Cloud and smartphone editing software
  • Strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and writing skills with the ability to absorb and apply constructive feedback
  • Must possess a flexible “can-do” attitude and enjoy working and collaborating with a team!

Minimum Requirements
